To become a licensed practical nurse, you are required to complete a training program that normally rakes 9 to 18 months to finish. After the training program, you must pass the licensing exam to be able to get employed.
There are two kinds of LPN training programs – online and traditional.
Traditional or on-site training programs are done in classroom settings in schools, community colleges, etc.
LPN online training is done through a computer with Internet connection and your communication with the instructor is done via e-mails. The mode of instruction involves mostly reading materials and videos. LPN online classes are ideal for those who are busy or those who need to work most times of the day.

If you have some scheduling problems and simply can't squeeze in on-site classes, here are some tips on how to find the right LPN online class for you.
• LPN training programs require in-person clinical hours. You have to find an accredited LPN program that offers LPN online classes in your area. This way, it will be easy for you to commute to the program site for your clinical training.

• Different states have different LPN training program prerequisites. Most training programs require a high school education but you may also be required to have grades in certain subjects like college English, mathematics and biology. In some locations, you will have to be a certified nursing assistant first or have a CPR certification before qualifying to get LPN online or on-site classes.

• After being accepted to a licensed practical nurse online training program, start registering your courses. Learn how to log in to your classes before the term starts and order all necessary textbooks. Expect these training programs to include in-person meetings which are needed for effective demonstration of patient care procedures and enhancement of patient interaction.
• Make sure to attend all clinical hours required by the online licensed practical nurse training. Clinical training such as the one required by the LPN profession simply can't be completed through distance learning even if the program is fully accredited.
After the completion of your online LPN classes, you can then apply for your licensure exam at the state board of nursing. There is a form to be filled out and perhaps a fee to be paid and you have to provide proof of graduation. You will be licensed to work as a practical nurse after passing the exam and will then be eligible to get a job.
