OLOID AG Basle
Agitate -Circulate - Aerate

The New Approach to Water
Water and energy: both are basic elements of the future. Since 1995 the OLOID AG offers an innovative technology for the treatment of waste water and liquid media. The engines may be used simultaneously as agitators, mixers and surface-aerators. This agitating- and aerating technology is based on a three-dimensional and pulsating motion and on a very special shape of the stirring body, the OLOID. The result: a most sparing energy consumption and best possible solutions in process engineering and evironmental technology.

OLOID TYPE 200 A
Materials:
OLOID body: plastics
mount: anodized aluminium (or stainless steel)
driving unit: stainless steel
measurements: approx. 250 x 110 x 420 mm
weight: 11 kg (aluminium version)
nominal output: 80 W
net consumption: up to 60 W
revolutions of OLOID axes: max. 125 rpm
current: horizontal 30 m, vertical 3 m

Applicable, flexible on a specific float construction as well as mounted tightly, as surface aerator (OLOID body partly immersed: OLOID as aerator) or as surface agitator (OLOID body fully immersed: OLOID as agitator).
Due to the low net power consumption the operation with solar energy is possible (e. g. in remote areas without power supply).

In particular, the OLOID agitator type 200 is an important part of the OLOID-sewage treatment plants.

THE OLOID AS SURFACE AERATOR
Immersed by a third or half of its volume in water, the OLOID body creates a water fan on the surface which enriches the water body with oxygen. Besides, the paddling motion of the OLOID body draws the water from the depth and then conveys it in a pulse-type movement and a straight line away from itself.

This procedure is highly efficient if large ponds with depths of 1.5-3 m have to be circulated and aerated. The actual water surface is increased by standing waves and therefore the specific oxygen transfer (on an average 8–12 gO2/m2/d) is approximately doubled. In fact, the OLOID-type 400 offers a highly interesting solution with surfaces of up to 5000 m2. For 5000 m2, an O2 transfer of 50 kgO2/d may be achieved. The flow may be up to 120 m long and efficiently prevents small-flow circulations treating the same amount of water again and again. Oxygen-poor water is carefully and regularly drawn to the surface. In sewage ponds, this will promote nitrification.

Ideally, this OLOID procedure is used to redevelop ponds and lakes, for oxidation ponds, leachate and dumping ponds as well as pond sewage treatment plants.

Technical characteristics are:

pulsating, directed flow and circulation
generation of oscillations and waves
gentle treatment of the composite
support of biological processes, efficient aeration
Applications:

pond sewage-treatment plants
sewage-treatment plants: for denitrification, elimination of phosphat, reduction of floating sludge

ice free keeping of lakes and ponds, buffer tanks for run-off from airports contaminated with de-icing agents, ponds for snow making water (preparation)
ponds on golf courts and in parks, rain catchment basins, oxydation ponds
flocculation and sludge treatment
leachate of landfill- and composting plants, run-off from composting plants
catchment basins for industrial waste-water and for general nurseries
rain catchment basins for communities
fish-, shrimps- and algae breeding; aquaristic
liquid manure, biogas plants, wine effluent
prevention of algae- and blue-green algae blooms
agitation and homogenization of various liquid media

The team of the OLOID AG gives you comprehensive advice to optimize your present plants and helps you to lower your running costs. A waste of energy harms your environment and your finances.

Schatz Inversion Kinematic

The answer to difficult mixing problems

The Schatz Inversion Kinematic is based upon the dynamic geometry of the 'Invertible Cube' which was discovered in 1929 by the Swiss anthroposophist and geometrician, Paul Schatz, who was then a resident of Dornach.

The motion has the character of a double lemniscate, each set at an angle of ninety degrees to the other. One node of each lemniscate is tiny and the other large, so that a microcosm/macrocosm dimension is present in the machine's geometry (see illustration below).

The Schatz kinematic has proven to be the optimum motion for difficult mixing problems such as the homogeneous blending of particulate solids - especially those of greatly different specific weight. Also, unlike most mixing devices, the inversion kinematic is very gentle so that almost no shear forces are generated. For this reason it is often used in industry to mix explosives.

The mixing motion of the Canadian made 88 MIXERS (manufactured by Inversion Machines Ltd.) is based on the Schatz Inversion Kinematic.

One only needs to see one of these mixers in operation to know that you are looking at a truly unusual phenomenon!

The Ideal Industrial Powder Mixer

Inversion Machines Ltd. manufactures industrial batch mixers, called the 88 MIXERS, which range in size from 2 liters to 220 liters (55 US gallons).
The motion of the 88 MIXER is based on the Schatz inversion kinematic which was a major breakthrough in mixing technology that occurred in Switzerland in the early 1950's. This is a complex, highly-ordered, 3-dimensional motion producing mixing results that are far superior to those obtainable with machines using a combination of shaking and rolling.

The unusual, 3-dimentional mixing motion quickly and efficiently produces a homogeneous substance regardless of specific weight of the substances being mixed. This makes it an ideal powder blender or paint mixer.

The 3D mixing motion has the form of a double lemniscate, and is illustrated below. Each lemniscate consists in a large outer node turning into a tight inner node. The resulting mixing action is fast, efficient, and yet extremely gentle.
